Farmhouse Sink: Single VS Double Bowl Sink

The farmhouse sink, in my opinion, sets the farmhouse design throughout the entire house. It is the core design piece of the kitchen. That’s why, whenever we were designing the kitchen, I was conflicted on going with the traditional single bowl farmhouse sink vs a double bowl farmhouse sink.

My sister Bethany and her husband jay restored an old farmhouse a few years ago and they put a single bowl farmhouse sink in their kitchen. I really liked the way her kitchen looked and copied here style when designing our kitchen. I liked the way the single bowl sink looked and was torn on what style to pick. Whenever I was trying to decide I asked my sister if she had to do it over again would she pick a double bowl sink instead, and she said yes.

I decided to go with the double bowl farmhouse sink and I am so glad I did. I like to have the ability to have hot water on the smaller side of the sink. It helps when thawing out frozen foods or when cleaning the kitchen.

We purchased our farmhouse sink from QualityBath.com. The style is Empire Olde London OL33G kitchen sink. The cost was around $600.

Now that we have been in the house for over two years, I am so glad we purchased this sink. It does show a few scratches here and there but it isn’t very noticeable. I hope this helps anyone that is trying to pick between these two options. Head over to my Instagram page to follow along on our build and please let me know if you have any questions.

  1. Your kitchen window seat looks deeper than standard window seats. Are all the windows like this? I like it, just wondering what to expect in our build.

    1. Yes, but it depends on the size of the perling you use and the way the building is framed. We used six inch perling and framed against that. My friends used 4in perling and there’s is not nearly as deep. Hope this helps.
